Manotick curlers win gold at Canada 55+ games
A team representing Ontario in the 55+ category has won the gold medal for curling at the 2010 Canada 55+ Games hosted by Brockville.
The team was skipped by Frank Van Ryckeghem (Manotick Curling Club), with Ron Barker (Manotick Curling Club as Third, Dale Campbell (Carleton Heights Curling Club) as Second, and Bob Bartlett (Manotick Curling Club) playing Lead.
Curling teams from across Canada entered into competition with the Ontario men edging Alberta in the gold medal game played at the Gananoque Lou Jeffries Community Center on Saturday August 28.
The Canada 55+ Games are the single largest celebration of active seniors in Canada. Close to 2000 participants visited Brockville and surrounding communities for competition in various sporting events, including tennis, golf, curling and track and field .
The Games began in 1996 and are a nation-wide program to sponsor wellness the spiritual, mental and physical well being among Canadians 55 years of age and older, They are held every two years with teams representing the provinces and territories participating.
